I am Leyla Nobatova, a visual artist exploring the intersection of geometry, color, and narrative.
Born in Turkmenistan, raised in Ukraine, and now based in San Francisco, I bring a cross-cultural perspective to contemporary painting. With both parents as visual artists, I was introduced to creative practice early before pursuing a career in technology. Since 2016 I have developed a body of work spanning digital illustration, watercolor, and acrylics on canvas.
Influenced by a formative calligraphy study in Japan, my current practice integrates Japanese ink with bold black outlines to define form and narrative. My works belong to a visual language I call Shapes & Stories, which explores both abstraction and memory.
I am currently preparing works for collectors, open calls, and residencies.
14” × 11” – Acrylic on canvas, Acrylic marker
My fascination with simple geometry and the way triangulations mirror the structures and decisions of our lives.
Round, diameter 20” – Acrylic on canvas, Acrylic marker – Not for sale
Life passes quickly, and we only witness a handful of sunrises in a lifetime. This piece is a reminder to enjoy the moment. (Inspired by a sunrise I witnessed at Burning Man.)
14” × 11” – Acrylic on canvas
An exploration of introspection and the depth of human psychology, visualized as a spiral into the self.
14” × 11” – Acrylic on canvas – Not for sale
A spiritual farewell, representing transformation and the release of people, animals, and experiences we carry with us.
14” × 11” – Mixed media
“AI, AI… How about Human rights?!” A work questioning technology’s impact on humanity.
12” × 12” – Acrylic on board
A study in stillness and movement. Inspired by the poppy fields of Turkmenistan, the piece reflects dynamic life hidden within simplicity.
A5 – Japanese ink, Watercolor marker, Pencil on mixed media paper
Abstract and expressive, this work captures the energy, flirtation, and lightness of kites in flight.
A5 – Watercolor, Japanese ink, Pencil, Pen on mixed media paper
A dreamlike vision of San Francisco’s Alamo Square, merging place with joy and the endless feeling of summer.
A5 – Japanese ink, Pencil, Pen on mixed media paper
Minimal yet powerful—an exploration of two colors, simplicity, movement, and the city’s voice when it demands pause.
Digital artwork
A contemporary digital composition exploring character, presence, and narrative through color and line. Unlike my traditional works on canvas or board,
Edith lives purely in the digital space, emphasizing how storytelling and emotion transcend medium.
